Edmonton, Alberta
20-26 May 2002
By Judy Lyons, Publicity Director
"Quilt Canada 2002" was a huge success. You
can find detailed coverage in "The Canadian Quilter" publication, Autumn
2002. Our thanks to the coordinators Barb Brady-Fryer and Mary Holdgrafer,
their organizing committee and the many volunteers.
Our "National Juried Show" was featured in
the main gallery space of the Edmonton Art Gallery. The Gallery setting was
spectacular for this auspicious occasion. All who had the opportunity to
attend will remember it. The show hung for 5 weeks and we thank all who
entered and congratulate all who won awards.
The Butterdome hosted 10 quilt shows.
These were contributed to by local guilds, art groups, and international
quilters. . There was something for all quilt enthusiasts. This huge
facility also accommodated all our merchant vendors and tearoom area.
The CQA/ACC Trend-Tex Challenge was truly
an expression of "Voices in Cloth" and the response overwhelming. In total
94 pieces were auctioned. We thank you all for your support.
The University of Alberta was a busy place
with 23 teachers holding workshops teaching their special techniques and
designs. Our Artist in Residence, Wendy Lewington Coulter, showed her
week's work at the final banquet. The three-panel quilt was donated to
"Read In" a local literacy group.
Our Annual General Meeting ended with a
visit from a very enthusiastic group of buffaloes inviting us to attend
Quilt Canada 2004 in Winnipeg.
We wish to express our thanks to all who
participated, and attended.
Your support to the Association is greatly
appreciated. Hope we see you all again at our next event.
